In today’s world, gratification is easy to find. It can be sought out through social media where the simplest post can provide instantaneous rewards through likes and comments. We garner approval on a click of a button at every turn on photos, shares, status updates and articles. Satisfaction is found at a distance from our peers, family and even strangers.
As a writer, I’ve been thinking about the need for outside acceptance lately. Daily I push for readership and find myself celebrating the “reach” I achieve through my writing. The interaction with my posts has become a measurable and tangible indication of success. I want my audience to provide affirmation of my latest articles; in some sad sense this has become on par with the satisfaction I find from merely writing.
